FEATURES OF SILVER FIR STAND REPRODUCTION IN MOUNTAIN FORESTS
Abstract
The paper substantiates the necessity of transforming even-aged and single-layered fir stands, which are characterized by reduced resistance to abiotic and biotic factors, through the formation of more stable and productive forest ecosystems, particularly beech-fir and fir forest stands. It is emphasized that the restoration of silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) is a complex and long-term process, as it requires consideration of the biological characteristics of the species, forest site conditions, and the implementation of effective silvicultural measures at all stages of stand development. The importance of applying an integrated approach to the reproduction of fir forests as a basis for increasing the ecological stability and productivity of mountain forest ecosystems is highlighted.
